Collodion Salt Solution for Ambrotype -Halide Solution -500 ml

Salting Solution for Ambrotype 500 ml is intended for preparing salted collodion used in the wet plate collodion process.

Keeping the salting solution separate from the base collodion allows you to prepare only the amount of salted collodion needed for a particular session. This is especially useful because pre-salted collodion changes its properties over time.

This approach helps reduce waste and makes it possible to prepare a fresh batch of collodion as needed.

Applications

The salting solution is intended for the wet plate collodion process, including:

• ambrotypes – positive images on glass,

• ferrotypes / tintypes – images made on suitably prepared metal plates,

• wet plate glass negatives.

The solution contains the salts needed to prepare salted collodion. After the plate is coated with collodion and placed in a silver nitrate bath, light-sensitive silver halides are formed.

Why prepare salted collodion as needed?

Keeping the salts separate from the base collodion allows you to:

• prepare salted collodion shortly before use,

• reduce waste caused by the ageing of pre-salted collodion,

• mix only the amount needed for a particular session,

• control more easily how much chemistry is prepared.

Preparing the collodion

Recommended mixing ratio:

3 parts 2% collodion + 1 part salting solution.

One 500 ml bottle of salting solution can be used to prepare approximately 2 litres of salted collodion.
