Cyanotype Kit 2 × 50 ml – Alternative Photographic Supplies
The cyanotype kit is suitable both for beginners and for those who already have some experience with historical photographic processes.
Cyanotype is one of the simplest photographic techniques to start with. It does not require a traditional darkroom or specialist equipment, and exposure can be carried out using sunlight or a UV lamp.
The kit is sufficient for approximately 40–60 A4 prints, depending on the type of surface and the method used to apply the solution.
What does the kit include?
-
Solution A – 50 ml
-
Solution B – 50 ml
-
Instruction guide – information on preparing the surface, exposure and washing, together with practical notes on working with the cyanotype process.
Solutions prepared fresh
The cyanotype solutions are prepared on the day your order is processed, so they are supplied fresh and ready to use.
Equal parts of Solution A and Solution B are mixed to prepare the light-sensitive solution, which can then be applied to a suitable surface.
For best performance, we recommend using the solutions within one month of delivery.
What can the kit be used for?
Cyanotype can be made on a range of suitable absorbent surfaces, including:
-
watercolour and printmaking papers,
-
natural fabrics such as cotton,
-
wood and other properly prepared absorbent surfaces.
The process can be used both with a photographic negative and without one, for example with plants, objects, cut-outs or other materials used to create photograms.
Useful accessories for cyanotype printing
You can complement the kit with materials and tools that make coating and printing easier:
-
Pictorico Ultra Premium OHP Film – transparent inkjet film for preparing digital negatives. Its microporous coating allows high optical density, which is important in contact-printing processes.
-
Canson Student Paper – a paper suitable for first experiments with cyanotype. It withstands washing well and allows the light-sensitive solution to be applied evenly.
-
Puddle Pusher – a glass coating rod used to spread the solution evenly and economically across the surface of the paper.
-
Foam Brushes – simple tools for applying the solution to paper and fabric. The foam leaves no bristles behind and makes it easy to control the coated area.
